Newday Festival
STAGE | CROWD | CREATIVE DIRECTION | FILM | PHOTO | EDITING
I was invited to be part of the creative team at Newday, a christian festival/church camp with an attendance of 12,000 people, where I was tasked mainly with filming and editing. I was working around the clock with the team to finish editing footage filmed on the same day, to then be shown on the main stage and posted to the festivals social medias. Merch BTS:
I was tasked with filming and editing a BTS video for their merchandise photoshoot, being given the creative freedom to do it in my own style, as long as I used their custom LUT which was used for all of their videos.
I aimed to film it in such a way that the audience would be able to tell it’s a BTS without it being stated, while simultaneously showing off the merchandise.
The video can also be watched here on Instagram:
Supercut intro (Week Summary)
I was also responsible for creating the intro to their ‘Supercut’ video — a summary of the week that would be shown to the entire crowd on the final evening, before later being posted to their Instagram and YouTube.
Creating this intro really tested my nerve and patience. I had to wait longer than expected for the subtitles from the graphics team and the audio from the music team, leaving me with very little time to put everything together. Rather than waiting around, I used the time to go through the team’s hard drive and find the B-roll clips I needed. These clips hadn’t been filmed by me, so I had to carefully review the available footage and decide which shots would work best and in what order.
Once I had all the assets, I worked quickly to bring everything together, making creative decisions under a lot of pressure. I finished the video just one hour before it was due to be played on stage in front of 12,000 people. It was definitely one of the more nerve-racking edits I’ve worked on, but seeing the finished video played to such a large audience made the pressure worthwhile.
I also got to use some of my more technical abilities when I was asked to create some smooth mask transitions for the second part of the intro.
